After sitting and tanning at any of the popular beaches for a couple of hours (and after a few beers) chances are that you will start craving a good snack, especially if is that time on the day in between meals. Don’t be shy and try the local “Finger Food”. You will see it, you will smell it and someone for sure will be offering some of it right at your sit.
There are many options to choose from but the most popular ones are Fish or Shrimp on a stick and Banana bread. The recommendation is to try either of the seafood options plus a good piece of the home-made banana bread.
Delicious shrimp or tender pieces of Mahi Mahi are traditionally used for this dish; they are marinated and grilled on a stick right on the beach using charcoal, don’t even ask for the marinade recipe, that is almost impossible to get. It will be served still on the stick and will come with salt, lime and hot sauce on the site in case you need it.
It is very normal to see people carrying a big tray on their head and walking on the beach, their job is usually to sell bread/pastries, they are all homemade and real delicacies but the banana bread takes the prize, a prefect desert that you can have after that delicious fish or shrimp on a stick.
There are many dishes and different types of cuisine that you will be able to enjoy in Puerto Vallarta including international restaurants and gourmet options, but if you come back home and did not try the authentic Vallarta Finger food you will leave with half the experience.
