The Ins and Outs of Taxis in Puerto Vallarta

Transportation in Puerto Vallarta

The International Airport is located about 10 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta and there will be  taxis or vans available for your transportation. Just pay at the taxi booth and they’ll assign you to a taxi/van that fits your needs and will take you to your place of arrival in town.

Local Taxis (The yellow cabs) – There are more than 1,000 of them available all over town. Thy tariffs for travel rather than meters so be prepared for that, you can get the rates for this at your hotel, they often post the rates to popular destinations, but it is always a good idea to ask about the cost before you take it.

Tips to the drivers are not necessary but will be very appreciated specially if you notice that the driver is “extra” helpful.

Local Buses – Buses will take you from one end of town to the other, or anywhere in-between for a very reasonable rate. If you are anywhere in the north side of town just take the bus that says “Olas Altas.” This will take you to the south part of town across the Rio Cuale, towards Los Muertos beach, you can go all the way there or “ring the bell” to stop anywhere in between.

If you are on the opposite side of town and want to go north towards the airport and large hotels, just take a bus that says “Hotels” or “Airport.”

The bus system will be an adventure by itself so enjoy it, if you think you went to far and actually got lost in it, your best move will be to either take a taxi cab to get you back on track or just sit back and relax, at some point it will turn around and bring you back to where you started.
