Manuel Lepe was born in 1936 and was known for his paintings, his style was considered “naif” and they showed the local landscape and city of Puerto Vallarta. Manuel Lepe is the only Mexican registered in the French Naif directory of art.
It has been said that he was never professionally trained but he was a true master of the profession, his paintings were a symbol of Puerto Vallarta during the period of time were it was just a small town and becoming popular as a touristic destination.
Lepe was known internationally and some of his work was featured in museums and galleries in the U.S. He was name Mexican artist of the year in 1979.
Died in 1984 but his legacy remains with us and his workshop can be visited as a galley and museum.
His biggest exposition was in Los Angeles California and one million visitors reunited to enjoy his talent and admire his work. He will for ever have an influence on local artist and you will always see his “style” on all kind of local forms of art.
