This type of artwork is very popular and a favorite of our visitors, in most cases this artworks represents the Mexican culture in a very special way. It has become famous in Mexico but its roots are actually from another country.
The Paper Mache technique comes from the ancient China and it was utilized to make items from decoration purposes but the name is not from that country, it comes from the French “papier mache” which means “mashed paper”
This technique is used in Mexico to make all kind of beautiful artwork and decorations that include masks, “piñatas”, wall decorations, animals, figures to celebrate festivities such as “El Dia de los Muertos”(the day of the death) and many more.
You can find then in a very sophisticated version by visiting the local galleries or also you can get the more popular versions (and better priced) at places such as the municipal market, the “Isla del Rio Cuale” or if you are staying in a popular beach such as “Los Muertos” then just sit back and relax, someone will bring it right to your tanning chair. Enjoy!
