“El Salado” estuary in Puerto Vallarta

El Salado estuary (the salty) is located by in the urban area of Puerto Vallarta and is constantly protected by local authorities and people in general. This estuary is a body of sea water that is partially surrounded by land.  The salt levels are reduced due rivers that feet it with water.

The perfect conditions on this area are ideal for different types of flora and fauna that populate the area, including the some species of alligators and crocodiles. This is a very important part of the local ecosystem and it is urgent for everyone to make sure that it stays healthy.

Studies done on the area have found that over 100 species of birds con be found in this area, 23 different types/families that include aquatic and land birds.  The presence and amount of this birds is different trough the year because some of them only stop in the area to complete their migration cycle.

In addition to that, 29 different species of amphibious and reptiles,10 types of mammals and a large amount of invertebrates and fishes live in this body of water.  Its connection to the ocean is permanent and in the rainy season (June-November) is when it replenishes the levels of water.

This could be an incredible place to explore but it has to be very carefully done so no harm is caused to the area and it has to be guided by professionals due the natural dangers that animals in the area hold for anyone coming in to their land.
